Carol Ham is an investment professional who began her career at Merrill Lynch in 1995. She holds the distinct title of Wealth Management Advisor which is awarded to Merrill Lynch Advisors who have extensive experience working with high net worth clients with investible assets in excess of $1 Million. She is dedicated to providing an investment approach which is grounded in placing her client’s needs and values at the center of the wealth management process. Her experience and integrity, combined with access to the broad resources of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, form the cornerstone of enduring client and family relationships. Carol leads the SCH Group with the focus of serving the complete needs of their clients.
Carol holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. She also holds the CERTIFIED INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT ANALYST® (CIMA®) designation, sponsored by the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). She is also a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) as well as the Financial Planning Association of Central Virginia. She currently serves on the Parish Council of Holy Comforter Catholic Church and the Board of Governors of the Farmington Hunt Club.

Mrs. Ham provides a broad platform of specialist resources within our firm including Trust and Estate Planning Services, custom home financing, residential lending through Bank of America, N.A., as well as services for business owners which include financing, retirement plan services and succession planning. Carol has exceptional experience in assisting individuals and families with multi-generational wealth management and transfer as well as retirement planning services for the individual as well as for corporations, both for profit and non-profit.
Carol Ham is a native of Apalachicola, Florida. She attained a BA degree from Florida State University and an MS degree from Livingston University. Mrs. Ham taught college courses through the University of Miami and the George Washington University. She was the Juvenile Court Psychologist in Greensboro, North Carolina and has served on the Board of Directors of the International Balfour School in Tel Aviv, Israel, during a diplomatic assignment with the American Embassy with her family, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Covenant School where she was the Finance Chair during the financing and construction phase of the new Upper School Campus.
Mrs. Ham is married to Steven W. Ham who is a retired USAF Lt Col with 20 years of active duty service, and who recently retired from a 25 year career with Merrill Lynch. Carol & Steve have two children; Carrie, a board-certified Neurologist practicing with MCV/VCU in Richmond, VA, and Nelson, a graduate of the University of Virginia who has been a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch since 2010. Nelson Ham, a graduate of the University of Virginia joined the SCH Group in 2014, along with Scott Patterson, who has been with Merrill Lynch for 15 years and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Our Registered Client Associate, who will celebrate 25 years with Merrill Lynch this year, is Mary Megginson, a native of Louisa, VA.
